The Khmer Rouge changed this pagoda into a security center in 1976. Prisoners who were brought into this place including the “New People”, the “Old People”, and the Khmer Rouge soldiers from the East Zone who were accused of being Vietnamese spies. The officers of former regimes were also brought to this prison.

Given the location of this pagoda near the river bank, many prisoners were put into boats to go to islands nearby such as Koh Thmey and Koh Kor, and to other islands in the middle of Bassac River. There the prisoners were killed.

The pagoda was initially under the administration of Kandal province and was annexed to Phnom Penh in 2010. This pagoda is also a religious place where the Cambodian prime minister comes every year during Pchum Ben.
